Why is there a technical stoppage?
Detention is about “foreign circumstances to the will of the parties”, states a circular issued by the Independent Union of Workers of the Automotive Industry Similar and Related Volkswagen of Mexico.
“Due to the modification of the production lines, it is necessary to implement production stoppages for weeks 35 and 36 in Segment 1 Jetta,” he says.
According to the document, certain personnel required in each of the areas will be programmed for production start-ups to guarantee the required equipment and materials.
In the circular, it does not specify whether the stoppage on the line was related to disruptions in the supply chain, as has happened in the past.
Within the complex, the vehicle with the highest assembly volume is the Tiguan, with a total of 72,402 units accumulated in the first semester. It is followed by Taos, with 43,125 units, and Jetta, with 40,111 units.
Compared to the same period last year, Jetta production was the one that grew the most having registered a rebound of 29.2%, followed by Taos with an advance of 15.0% and Tiguan with 3.1%, according to Inegi data.
This will affect workers
In the first week of halting operations, on Monday, Saturday and Sunday the salary will remain at 100%, but for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday it will drop to 65%. On average, the payment for this period will be 80% weekly.
For the second week, workers will receive their full salary on Saturday and Sunday, while from Monday to Friday it will remain at 65%. These percentages bring with them an average weekly wage of 75%
For people who want it and, if they still have days, they can request vacations, in accordance with the company’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, to which it adds that the role of shifts will be respected for all segments and auxiliary areas.
On August 18, Volkswagen de México reported that it had reached an agreement with the company union for a salary increase of 8.1%as well as 0.5% of the workers’ savings fund, which would take effect a couple of days later.
The firm asserted that the agreement seeks to protect the purchasing power of personnel “in a post-pandemic environment that continues to present challenges for the economy and the automotive industry”, in a scenario of high inflation.
