Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, has gone down globally, according to reports via downdetector as confirmed by the company through Twitter. Apparently, the Amazon Echo, smart speakers that include the company’s assistant, are not capable of processing the requests of their users and respond to the commands claiming that they have “connection problems”. The alexa apps, available for iOS and Android, as well as some Amazon-related services, are also failing.
The reports have started in the early hours of the morning, and affect several places where Alexa is operational. Among them, Spain, UK, France, Italy and other countrieslike the United States or Turkey. The main problem is the inability to contact the assistant through an Amazon Echo, and this also affects the ability to manage smart devices. “All my devices, as well as plugs and lights do not work at the same time, what happened??”, comments a user in downdetector.
amazon has confirmed the fall of Alexa and the problems of the Amazon Echo through Twitter. The company is currently working on a solution, but it is unknown when it will be available again. Meanwhile, the user can check what the weather is like by looking out the window or turn on the lights using the physical switch.
“We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience caused. In fact, it is a general problem [en referencia a la caída de Alexa], our technicians are working on a solution, we ask for your patience”.

Alexa recovers little by little
After several hours down around the world, Amazon’s virtual assistant seems to be recovering the connection. Some users confirm that they can now make commands through their smart speaker or through the app, and connected accessories such as lights are now working normally. However, it seems that it is a staggered service recovery. That is, some devices may take a little longer to work properly again.
