One of my earliest memories is hearing the dial tone to connect to the Internet for the first time on a Windows 95 desktop computer. Back then, computers were beefy and slow, and most people had doubts that the Internet was going to be more than a fad.
The life of the children of before was completely different from that of the children of today; the idea of social media, influencers, and iPhones was unimaginable back then. Most people would agree that The internet ushered in one of the biggest changes in human history, and we can thank Bill Gates and Steve Jobs for pushing the technology forward.. And just as rapid technological developments have changed the way we transfer information, cryptographic tokens will do the same for the transfer of value.
In the late 1990s, Apple said that “the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do”. There is a lot of truth to this, and it doesn’t just apply to the early defenders of the Internet. The crypto space is home to some of the greatest visionaries in the world today.
Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto is the kind of person Jobs was talking about in his campaign.”Think different“, but I would say that Vitalik Buterin will also be remembered as one of the most influential figures of the 21st century.
While Bitcoin laid the foundation for the internet money revolution, Buterin helped tokenization flourish with the creation of Ethereum.
The Russian-Canadian programmer envisioned a blockchain-based open version of the internet, and his creation has already given rise to an alternative financial system that liquidates trillions of dollars in value annually.
Following this thinking, Mel Gelderma, CEO of token.com, believes that the token economy will reach mass adoption within this decade, and Ethereum is currently at the epicenter of the movement. Buterin has been ahead of the curve when it comes to predicting the future of tokenization; in recent years he has spoken about using Ethereum for decentralized identity, Web3 social and other use cases beyond finance.
Buterin is already the most influential figure in cryptocurrency, and his track record of spotting trends years before they happened means that what he says is worth paying attention to.
Mel Gelderman said: “The first time I used Bitcoin, I had the same light moment as when I first tried the Internet. Interacting with an Ethereum smart contract for the first time had a similar effect. The crypto movement will prove to be just as disruptive as the Internet. “
“Society will remember Buterin and Nakamoto as heroes when they keep their promise”, he concluded.
