Carlos Ocariz, Venezuelan politician and Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate ahead of the elections in 2024, publicly proposed the creation of a Venezuelan currency as an alternative to the bolivar, with the aim of “breaking with the current economic model” of the country.
According to a review of the Banking and Business portal, The Venezuelan politician would have told the Venezuelan portal Unión Radio that Venezuela is going through an “exaggerated” hyperinflation process, therefore, he proposed the creation of a new currency with which goods and services can be paid for.
They also pointed out that the name of the currency raised by the politician would be ‘El Nuevo Real’a currency that would be anchored to the dollar and would have a value equivalent to 2 reais per dollar.
Finally, Ocariz mentioned that the implementation of the new currency would be a multi-stage plan, which would also require the support of international organizations, and the creation of a social fund. from regular taxes and oil revenues.
