Steam Deck is one of the big surprises of the year and the portable gaming PC of Valve has not left anyone indifferent. The doubt in case all Steam games will work on the machine still there, but as we told you a few hours ago, the company will have a verification system that will tell us if a game is going well on Steam Deck. It’s great, but someone has to check that compatibility, and it could be you.
It’s almost one of those dream jobs, although it sure is tough. Speaking to the Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Steam Deck designers Greg Coomer and Lawrence Yang have stated that Valve is creating a specific working group for that verified system. There are more than 50,000 games on Steam, so it is not something that can be done quickly without staff.
“Steam has a lot of games and Valve is putting a significant effort into this verification program. We have hired to an additional group of testers specifically for Steam Deck compatibility and we will continue hiring additional staff to support this group, “explained the workers, although we do not know how many people will be in that team.
“It will take time to review the Steam catalog (in addition to the new titles that are released all the time),” they have acknowledged. Developers will be able to ask for verification your game’s compatibility with Steam Deck before launch, but it will all depend on whether Valve has time to review it: they expect it to take about a week per game, but it will depend on certain factors.
Steam Deck will begin shipping in December 2021, but many players who reserved the PC will have to wait until 2022. The compatibility of the games is still one of the great unknowns, but it is clear that Valve is doing a lot of its part so that everything is very clear when it comes to going to buy a game for the device.
