Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology is reaching all parts of the world. Ukraine announced this Friday that he began auctioning off a collection of NFTs in order to raise funds in cryptocurrencies to finance his war against Russia, with the creation of a museum.
According to data from Statista, investment in cryptocurrencies is quite popular in India, where in 2021 18 percent of respondents said they own bitcoin. Compared to the survey carried out in 2019, the proportion has increased by eleven percentage points.
Let us remember that NFTs are a type of crypto asset that uses blockchain technology to record who is the owner of a digital file from an image to a video or a piece of text and are usually bought with cryptocurrencies such as ether.
The “Meta History: War Museum” collection
The information is reviewed on the official website of the museum, where they explain that the NFT collection is named “Meta History: War Museum”, comprising a series of digital images including silhouettes of warplanes, screenshots of news reports and even an image of a cartoon-style explosion, each marking a different day in the conflict that has been recorded since the past February 24th.
Also on the official site they explain that the purpose of the collection is “preserve the memory of the real events of that time, spread truthful information among the world’s digital community and collect donations for the support of Ukraine.”
Each NFT are facts accompanied by personal reflections, where each one is made up of a real news from an official source and an illustration by some Ukrainian or international artist.
These NFTs will have a starting value of 0.15 ether, or just over $475. The funds will go directly to Kyiv’s digital crypto wallets, according to the website.
Ukraine says it has already raised more than $65 million for its war effort so far and hopes to raise more.
This is not the first action of Ukraine using this crypto asset, as we remember that the country’s Ministry of Digital Transformation began to request donations in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether three days after Russia launched its invasion.
As well, the European country has bought various supplies for its military with its crypto donations.
Earlier this month the Ukrainian government and Alex Bornyakov, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, announced that they will launch a collection of NFTs with the aim of being able to tell their side of the story about the terrible Russian invasion.
“We want to tell it to the world in NFT format. Each NFT would aim to tell a part of the story, it was also mentioned that the sources would be taken from specialized media, ”says part of the first statement.
