In New Delhi, Truss will send the message that “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine underscores the importance of democracies working more closely together to deter aggressors, reduce vulnerability to coercion and strengthen global security,” said UN High Commissioner United Kingdom in New Delhi, the main British diplomatic body in India.
For his part, Truss said in a statement that strengthening relations between India and the United Kingdom is “even more important in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, without any provocation and underlines the need for free democracies to work more closely together”.
Truss’ remarks come ahead of a two-day visit to India by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
US President Joe Biden has called India “somewhat undecided” about Russia, and this week White House Deputy National Security Adviser Daleep Singh also visited Delhi.
