While coronavirus cases are no longer a concern, the world is gradually returning to normal.
In this context of emerging from the pandemic, Uber Technologies announced that it has eliminated the mandatory use of face masks or any other face mask for both your passengers and your drivers in the United States.
The shared transport company confirmed the measure in the framework of the decision of a US judge that eliminated the requirement in all public transport in the country, something that did not go down well in the White House.
Likewise, Uber says that passengers who want to wear the mask, if they feel more comfortable, can continue to do so.
Uber had mandated the use of face masks for drivers, passengers and delivery people around the world in May 2020, when the number of covid-19 cases grew exponentially and there were no vaccines.
Uber said in a statement that the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the highest health authority in that country, continues to recommend the use of a protective mask if a person has high-risk factors or if the level transmission increases.
The last easing measure taken by Uber was in November 2021, when it resumed ride sharing that had been suspended at the beginning of 2020. Reuters.
Now it is expected that Uber’s decision extends to other transport applications, such as Cabify.
The decision is also awaited in other Latin American countries.
In most, the use of face masks in public transport is still mandatory, although some have made it more flexible outdoors.
On the other hand, this Tuesday, April 19, also Most airlines in the United States announced that they will not require the use of face masks on their flights.
United Airlines, for example, explained that it will do so on all flights within the United States and on some international ones, depending on the requirements of the country of arrival.
Along the same lines, other airlines such as American Airlines and Delta spoke. Also Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
