Twitter said it will collaborate with agencies during the breaking news to add precise context, which could appear in various places on Twitter, as a tag attached to tweets about the event or as a “Moment”, which you select information on trending topics on the social network.
The partnerships mark the first time that Twitter will formally collaborate with news organizations to upload accurate information to its site, a Twitter spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that Twitter will work separately with AP and Reuters, a division of information services company Thomson Reuters, and the news agencies will not interact with each other.
“Trust, accuracy and fairness are at the heart of what Reuters does every day … those values also drive our commitment to stopping the spread of misinformation,” Hazel Baker, global head of content, said in a statement. User-generated UGC from Reuters.
Tom Januszewski, AP vice president of global business development, said “We are particularly excited about taking advantage of AP’s scale and speed to add context to online conversations, which can benefit from easy access to the facts.”
