The Toyota GR010 Hybrid of Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and ‘Pechito’ López has finished in front of the FP2 of the 6 Hours of Bahrain thanks to the 1: 49.063 scored by Kobayashi. The first of Toyota’s LMHs surpassed # 8 by 30 thousandths, although the course of the session was very different for the two crews of the Japanese brand. In fact, the Toyota # 8 was the cause of the only red flag of FP2 after Sébastien Buemi crashed with the Ferrari # 85 of Iron Lynx in the first corner of the circuit. In addition to this mishap, the session has been plagued with other small incidents.
As it happened in the practice session on Friday, The Toyota GR010 Hybrids have signed a 1-2 in Sakhir, although in reverse order. A circumstance that has been drawn from 1: 49.603 marked by Kamui Kobayashi with the Toyota # 7, but also because of the accident that Sébastien Buemi has had with the Toyota # 8 with the Ferrari # 85 and that has left serious damage to the front of the Japanese LMH. For its part, Alpine’s LMP1 finished third, although it was 1.1 seconds slower than the leader on the best lap of Matthieu Vaxivière.
Just a few thousandths behind the last of the premier class prototypes has been placed the best of the LMP2, in this case the Oreca # 28 of the Jota team, captained by Tom Blomqvist and his best lap in 1: 50.199. Taking over from the Oreca # 38, the fastest vehicle in FP1, Jota’s LMP2 has surpassed United Autosports’ Oreca # 22 by almost eight tenths. For its part, Oreca # 31 of Team WRT has finished third in a session in which Realteam’s Oreca # 70 has caused one of the periods of ‘Full Course Yellow’ after stopping at Turn 14.
Leaving aside the prototypes, the GTE category continues to offer an uneven duel between the two manufacturers involved in the LMGTE-Pro class. Within this scenario, Kévin Estre and Neel Jani’s Porsche # 92 set the standard with Estre’s 1: 56.411. Two tenths behind the Porsche # 91 has been placed. Very far from the two GTEs of the Stuttgart firm, the Ferrari cars have been located, in a situation that calls into question the ‘BoP’ of the WEC. In fact, Ferrari # 51 finished 2.9 seconds behind the leader, while Miguel Molina’s Ferrari # 52 finished at almost 3.1 seconds.
Regarding the LMGTE-Am category, Team Project 1’s Porsche # 56 has repeated at the top of the timesheets thanks to the 1: 58.015 scored by Matteo Cairoli. In fact, the Italian driver has surpassed by more than nine tenths the Aston Martin # 33 of the TF Sport team. One tenth behind the British GTE has finished the Porsche # 77 captained by Christian Ried. After being the protagonist in the most serious incident of the session, the # 85 Ferrari of the Iron Lynx women’s team finished last of the general of the session.
