This week Apple TV Plus debuts The Crowded Rooma novel thriller that will introduce us to a Tom Holland as we have rarely seen him on screen. However, it seems that the exhausting workload throughout this production has led the British star to reassess his short-term plans.
The miniseries follows Danny Sullivan (Holland), who is arrested for his involvement in a shooting at the Rockefelle Center in New York in 1979. Through a series of interviews with investigator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried) the mysterious past that shaped it. Unfortunately, the fiction based on the true crimes of Billy Milligan has been destroyed by the specialized press, with a 10% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In interview with ExtraTom explained that he really connected with the vision for this project of the creator Akiva Goldsman, winner of the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for A brilliant mind (2001).
“I was terrified of playing this character, and to me that’s a really good thing, so I said yes,” said the 27-year-old actor. “I agreed that it was time to tell a story about trauma-induced mental health. And educate some people about how powerful and crazy your mind is, that it can work for good or it can work for bad. That really resonated with me.”

However, Tom Holland not only appears before the cameras in The Crowded Room, but also served for the second time in his career as an executive producer. The first time he held that position was in the film adaptation of Uncharted: Off the Map (2022).
“It was a difficult time, for sure,” he confessed. “We were exploring certain emotions that I definitely had never experienced before. And on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day issues that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure.”
Adding an emotionally draining role to his behind-the-scenes responsibilities made him decide it’s time to take the next year off from acting.
“I am no stranger to hard work. I have always lived with this idea that hard work is good work,” added Holland. “I really enjoyed it, but then again, [The Crowded Room] broke me There came a time when I thought: ‘I need to take a break.’ I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and spent time at the beach. And now I’m taking a sabbatical, and that’s a result of how difficult this series was.”
The Crowded Room will premiere its first three episodes this Friday, June 9 on the Apple TV Plus platform.
