After the draw – with a taste of defeat – against Venezuela (1-1), the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) made the decision that Juan Reynoso do not continue as coach of the Peruvian National Team. This Friday, a board meeting was held where they not only talked about the total separation of the ‘Chess Player’, but also about the search for his replacement. As Depor learned, the highest soccer entity in Peru will create a commission that will help Juan Carlos Oblitas in the task of finding the new coach of the ‘Bicolor’.
At the meeting it was determined that there will be a working group, led by the general director of football of the FPF, which must analyze and provide possible candidates to assume the technical direction of the ‘Blanquirroja’. Likewise, it was learned that the deadline to submit names will be mid-January.. That same month the new coach must be chosen.

Regarding the profile you are looking for: It must be someone who knows Peruvian football well (not necessarily who has coached a national club), who can connect well with the National Team players and who gives them confidence so that some of them can recover mentally.. In the coming weeks, more details will emerge about the election of the new manager of the ‘Blanquirroja’, who will have a lot of work to do.
At one point there was talk about the possible return of Ricardo Gareca, who spent almost eight years in charge of the Peruvian National Team.. In the meeting it was stated that there is no way for the Argentine to return to the ‘Bicolor’, because his salary, at this time, is outside the economic reality of the FPF. Managers took the rumors as anecdotal.
How is Reynoso’s separation from the National Team going? In addition to the commission to search for his replacement, another will be created, in the legal field, for the negotiation of the technician’s departure. To do this, this group will meet with the representative of the ‘Chess Player’, Mathias Fariña, until an agreement is reached. The priority is that the economic impact, due to his departure, is not very high. And the FPF will only rule on the end of the contract when the signatures are made.

The numbers that Juan Reynoso left in the ‘Bicolor’
Juan Reynoso will not continue to lead the Peruvian National Team due to the poor results obtained in the first days of the Qualifiers towards the 2026 World Cup. Until now, the ‘Bicolor’ is the only team that does not know what it means to win in the current process qualifying (four losses and two draws).
During his time in the ‘Blanquirroja’, the ‘Ajedrecista’ directed a total of 14 matches, of which four were victories, three draws and seven losses. Likewise, the national team scored nine goals and conceded 16. Precisely, one of the biggest defects of the National Team was the lack of goals in official matches.
