The lighting system has not made Call of Duty: Warzone fans very happy after the Season 5 update.
Call of Duty: Warzone is one of Activision’s most popular titles. Released in March 2020, this battle royale has remained a complete success. And while Coming to Warzone 2 Player Devices Later This Yearplayers will be discussing expectations about the new installment.
Although, of course, the trend of the shooter lately has been towards solving common problems within its player base. For example, the company has a very difficult task so far: to stop the traps and bad practices that have circumvented the security system and have even continued to evolve as Activision takes measures.
On the other hand, the franchise has had to take more drastic measures to prevent piracy and developed the Ricochet anti-cheat program, which aims to identify cheaters, stop constant hacking, and improve the overall gaming experience. Thus, Activision mentions that it is doing everything possible to mitigate rogue games and is improving “the speed at which we can recognize when players are doing things they shouldn’t do” (as explained by the development team in a official blog).
In this sense, the company has already given its statements on anti-cheat solutionslike the “Mitigation Toolboxes”, “The Damage Shield”, “Disarming” and “Cloaking”.
However, even though hacking and cheating are the biggest focus for Activision right now, that’s not to say that there aren’t occasional bugs or glitches that continue to interfere with gameplay.
A fault with the lighting
Recently, developer Raven Software has elaborated that season five introduced a considerable number of changes to the Warzone Caldera map. Of course, the visual changes were very noticeable, as they include an active volcano spouting molten lava and flaming rocks around the map. Because the company attached this natural phenomenon, they also had to frame the lighting not just for this set, but in general. In this case, once the storm on the island has passed, Raven’s claims were for the sunlight to be a little brighter at the time of appearing in the jungle and will contrast with the smoke of the active volcano.
But sadly, it looks like this didn’t have the effect they wanted, as many Call of Duty: Warzone players find that the lighting has gone up enough to become uncomfortable. And the proof of this is that the glare of the sun is so intense that it does not allow them a clear view of the landscape. In fact, the glow is so “vibrant” and intense in several of the locations on the map that many players believe that the original Warzone visual glitch from 2021 has returned. So several of the fans have commented on their social networks what is happening with the lighting. Among their comments, throughout the Warzone subreddit we can find players dissatisfied with the changes and as a sample they attach images with the visual glitch.
To better understand what’s going on, a screenshot shared by Rakatee on the Call of Duty: Warzone subReddit clearly shows what new issues are being faced with this lighting system. While walking around the map, it seems that the sun is too big to see player images, proving that it might not be as efficient as its developers initially thought.
Other users, for example, commented that when looking up, the glare was much more intense than before the update, as well as pointing out the system inconsistency. In other words, the lighting was not the same in all parts of the map, especially in the north, where it was considered worse. But if the players agreed on something, it is that they wanted back the lighting system from preseason 5.
And more and more fans are joining the petition, and although they have been gaining popularity, Raven still does not position herself on the matter. He even stated that Season 5 will be the last for Warzone, so this bug will probably be passed up to ensure Warzone 2 is ready for official release. However, the concerns of the fan community are only increasing as they may have to deal with this Caldera issue for a long time. In fact, leaked details about the Warzone 2 map reveal that he could be influenced by locations like Quarry, Terminal, and Highrise.
