A modern 3D design of the Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask made by a fan shows what the roguish character would look like in a modern game. Follow-up to Ocarina of Time, Nintendo’s 2000 game forced players to collect various unique skins in an endless three-day loop, and now it returns to Nintendo Switch Online on February 25, allowing players to gamers relive the darkest installment in the series on modern hardware.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, one of the most beloved installments in the Nintendo franchise, borrowed many concepts from Ocarina of Time, while also introducing a number of unique mechanics. The plot of the game is that Skull Kid, a young wanderer possessed by a dark relic called Majora’s Mask, performs a dark ritual to cause the moon to collapse in three days. This means that players must use a magic song to repeatedly reset the game clock while completing various tasks.
To pay homage to Zelda: Majora’s Mask and give us an idea of what the character would look like in a modern game, tsuda_art has created an extraordinary 3D render of the iconic Skull Kid. Built with Blender software, the render recreates a scene in which he relaxes while he floats above the ground. The animated art also includes Tatl and Tael, two fairies who accompany the Skull Kid early in the game, and a trunk included in the image. The most observant can even see the true face of the Skull Kid behind the antagonistic Majora’s mask.
Although not remembered as fondly as Ocarina of Time, the dark elements of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask have made the title a favorite among Nintendo fans. Possessed by the evil Majora’s Mask and accompanied by Tatl and Tael, the iconic design of the Skull Kid has long been a symbol of the haunting adventure, and now we can imagine what it would look like in a Zelda game with modern graphics.
