The control of the Playstation 5 will be very different from what we are used to, and Sony is aware of this; that’s why all the consoles sold will come with a free game that demonstrates their possibilities.
We are getting closer to the launch of the Playstation 5 in Spain, in addition to the Xbox Series X; two consoles that promise to make a significant leap in power that will allow ultra-realistic graphics.
But this graphic jump is not as exciting as it was before, rather it is just what we would expect considering that the price of the consoles is expected to be higher. So Sony wants the jump to be not just in graphics, but to expand the possibilities in games.
The possibilities of the control of the Playstation 5
The DualSense is the first Sony controller that is not called DualShock since the reviled Sixaxis included with the Playstation 3; But unlike the Sixaxis, which introduced shoe movement controls, the DualSense focuses on adding features that improve existing and future games.
Journalist Geoff Keighley has had the opportunity to be the first to test the remote before launch, as he has shown in a 24-minute video exploring its possibilities; And the truth is that they are many, although it is striking that one of the first things that Keighley notices is that the controller is heavier than the DualShock 4.
Remember that the DualSense is characterized by including tactile sensations, the evolution of traditional vibration; That adds a further degree of immersion, by being able to ‘feel’ what the characters feel in the game. In addition, some buttons such as the L2 and R2 triggers are capable of varying their hardness depending on factors such as the terrain we walk on or the force we have to do when performing actions.
In addition, the DualSense includes integrated microphones, so that it is not necessary to install headphones with a microphone; They will be especially useful in online games, but can also allow new types of games.
Free game with Playstation 5
Sony seems aware that these are too many changes for an audience accustomed to DualShock; so he has decided to develop a free game, which will be included with the console, and which Keighley has had a chance to try.
It’s called Astro’s Playroom, and we control the Astro robot in a series of challenges designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the controller. For example, in one part it is possible to “feel the tension” of some springs on the buttons themselves.
The tactile sensation will allow us to realize that the character has trouble walking on sand instead of flat terrain; A curious detail is that the DualSense also has speakers, but they are of better quality and are better synchronized with the action of the game, so we can hear the character’s footsteps at the same time as we step on the sand.
The DualShock 4 touch zone has not been removed, and we can continue to use it in some mini-games, such as zipping up. In that sense, the microphones can be used to blow on them and activate a grinder.
Some of these functions are very reminiscent of the Nintendo Wii, and are clearly aimed at casual audiences; It will be interesting to see how they fit into the exclusive Playstation 5 titles.
