The Government of Mexico delivered the Recognitions for Quality and Safety in Health 2022. This is an annual award aimed at experts and institutions for their contributions in management, teaching and research to improve the services provided to the population. Among the categories is Best hospital in Mexico and below we share the list of winners.
In this sense, the health field is one of the most competitive in the country. It can be seen in the constant opening of clinics throughout the national territory. But although there is a large number, in the end there are few that really offer a top-level service.
The best hospital in Mexico this 2022
The General Hospital “El Plan”, of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex)located in Veracruz, received the National Award for Quality in Health and the Recognition of Merit for Continuous Improvement 2022.
The Director of Process Improvement General Directorate of Quality and Health Education (DGCES), Nilson Agustín Contreras Carreto, highlighted that these awards recognize the leadership and contributions of individuals and institutions for the implementation of the quality management model in care as a factor of change and success to achieve the highest level of user satisfaction.
He announced that this year the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste), Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (Semar) participated. , Pemex, National System for the Integral Development of the Family (SNDIF), Coordinating Commission of National Institutes of Health and High Specialty Hospitals (CCINSHAE), as well as the units and establishments of the state health services.
He explained that academic health institutions and non-profit civil society organizations proposed 75 people, of which, unanimously, the qualifying jury made up of representatives of the Health sector, selected seven, based on their merits.
The deputy director of Accreditation and Quality Assurance of the DGCES, Marcela Sánchez Zavala, highlighted the need to create alliances that make it possible to provide quality care with the least possible risk, centered on people, communities and the population.
The director of the General Hospital “El Plan”, PemexHugo Enrique Alvarado Ríos, said that quality medical care and patient satisfaction is the raison d’être of the medical unit under his charge, which is why his staff receive continuous training.
Why was it considered the best hospital in Mexico?
This hospital, which received the Recognition of Merit for Continuous Improvement 2022complies with the integration of the quality management model to set objectives, meet limitations and redesign programs that improve care for users, said the public servant.
He indicated that, since 2017, the General Hospital “El Plan” began the renovation process to standardize care, and during the COVID-19 pandemic provided safe health services to patients and staff.
The best medical teachers in Mexico
The winner in the category Teaching of the National Recognition of Quality and Safety Management in Health Care 2022Juvencio Bautista Antonio, stressed that the quality and safety of care must be an indispensable and irreplaceable component that benefits individuals, families, and communities.
Health quality, he explained, is measured by the degree of patient satisfaction with any episode of illness or admission to a hospital; means making available to patients the best means, the best infrastructure and materials to offer the best possible service.
For almost ten years she has worked on nursing-focused protocols to strengthen research in this field. His projects are focused on achieving a positive impact on health, meeting the needs of users through training and updating knowledge in nursing.

On this occasion, the National Recognition for Health Care Quality and Safety Management 2022, in the research category, it was awarded to Santiago González Nicolás, from the High Specialty Regional Hospital (HRAE) of Ixtapaluca.
In the category Teaching in Quality and Safety of Health CareThe recognition went to Juvencio Bautista Antonio, from the Regional Hospital of High Specialty “Bicentenario de la Independencia” of the ISSSTE in Tultitlán, State of Mexico; for Norma Angélica Bernal Pérez Tejada, from the Coordination of the Intensive Care Specialty, of the Autonomous University of Guerrero; as well as for María Guadalupe García Meraz, from the Directorate of Medical Benefits of the IMSS in Mexico City.
in the field of Health Care Quality and Safety Management it was delivered to Cristina Jesús González, from the General Directorate of Health of the Sedena; Fabián Alejandro Lara García, from the “Tercer Milenio” General Hospital, from the Institute of Health Services of the state of Aguascalientes; and Walverly Morales Gordillo, from High Specialty Medical Unit No. 25, of the IMSS Northeast National Medical Center in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
For the first time, it was awarded Recognition of Research Projects in Quality and Safety in Health Care. This year, five of the 33 proposed works were awarded.
The first: Evaluation of costs and survival of the renal graft one year after transplantation, comparing transplantation under the paired renal donation program and desensitization with plasmapheresis in sensitized renal patients at the Central Military Hospital, for the director of that hospital who located in Mexico City, Jorge Arturo García Dávila.
The second project: Evaluation of mental health through the digital platform of the Center for Research in Health Sciences (CICS), Sedena. The award was received by the head of the Neuropsychiatry Department of the Central Military Hospital, Iván Noé Martínez Salazar.
The third award-winning protocol was: Reduce the incidence of vertical transmission of HIV through timely detection actions of the virus in 100% of pregnant women who are treated at the HG “José Vicente Villada” in the municipality of Cuautitlán, State of Mexico. The director of this instance belonging to the entity’s Health Institute, José Mauricio Pérez Álvarez, received the recognition.
The fourth award-winning project was: Reduce the risk of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality due to the unnecessary use of cesarean section as a method of resolving the obstetric event to streamline the administrative and operational performance of the General Hospital “Dr. Salvador González Herrejón”, in Atizapán de Zaragoza. The recognition was received by the head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service, Carolina Tapia Ramírez.
The last recognized project was: Validation of the effectiveness of the psychiatric emergency care model of the Zoquiapan Granja La Salud Hospital as a reference applicable to other hospitals to optimize priority psychiatric emergency care, in the second semester of 2023. The recognition was received by the director of the hospital, Norma Sánchez Castañeda.
