Sorare, a platform that offers digital collectibles based on blockchain technology, has announced a agreement with LaLiga to launch non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of all its players. With this agreement another large important organization enters the cryptocurrency universe.
With this new offer, fantasy football fans, collectors and players will be able to exchange and play with digital cards of LaLiga players. This is a pioneering agreement but it will not be unique because Sorare has plans to sign similar agreements with each of the top 20 soccer leagues before the end of 2022. Gerard Piqué, Barcelona player, is one of the investors in this startup and, in fact, has already promoted your NFT on your Twitter account.

The agreement, which includes both LaLiga Santander (first division) and LaLiga Smartbank (second division), takes this sports institution to the world of NFTs for the first time, remembering that this is a great year for this sector of digital assets. Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare believes that “the NFTs are the future of sports fans worldwide“.
What does it mean to have an NFT card
Sorare’s cards are NFT and this translates to each one being unique and your ownership can be publicly verifiable via blockchain. This deal combines NFT technology with sports cards and fantasy football and through collecting, owning and trading limited edition digital collectibles, Sorare has sought to create a new gaming experience “and protect and control its assets in a safe space” .
For LaLiga this technological agreement can help them take their brand to markets where Spanish football is less popular than in Europe, such as Asian countries and the United Statess, where cryptocurrencies do have many fans. It also opens a new avenue of income for LaLiga clubs, through a category of licenses that are the NFTs.
Sorare is a startup born in 2018 that has had great investors in its short history: in addition to Gerard Piqué, footballers Antoine Griezmann and Rio Ferdinand, also Benchmark, Accel Partners and Headline. Sorare says it has processed more than $ 200 million in sales through its platform since early 2021. The platform has more than 500,000 registered users.
