It has been made to wait. After months of absolute radio silence, settled with a one-month delay, Battlefield 2042 launches its public beta, kicking off the title on November 19. And the truth is that although the Build that has been tested It is old compared to the current development of the game, has left a good taste in our mouths.
While, and it must be said, the current beta of Battlefield 2042 is lacking in content, it serves as a kind of tiny appetizer of what is to come. During the days it has been available, -of October 6 to 9- Only one game mode (Conquest) and one map (Orbital) could be played. In addition, the number of weapons available was limited, and the same with the accessories of the same.
The beta, like most betas, contained a good list of bugs, glitches, and graphical bugs. At EA they are aware of them, and claim that many of them have already been patched in the version of its internal development cycle that will be released in November. The beta glitches were random, and most of the ones we’ve seen are related to character physics, with little flickers or erratic draw distances and textures. Too some options of the core of the game that were not available, and that can be consulted here.
Making this clear, how is the beta of Battlefield 2042? Spectacular. The visuals are outstanding, and the textures and lighting of the map are incredible on the new generation of consoles. In addition, the gunplay of the weapons feels great too, and the addition of some mechanics like tactical sprinting or continuous gliding (with some cooldown) give much more dynamism to combat.
Battlefield 2042: a solid foundation with plenty of room for improvement
The entire pack feels like a solid foundation on which to build an outstanding game when it comes out in December. However, there is a somewhat problematic issue and it has to do with visibility. The realistic graphics subtracts part of the visibility of the enemies throughout the map, and maybe increasing the lighting of the characters would be a good starting point to improve the game.
We do not know if that will be solved in the final version of the game, but it is a change that would be appreciated, given the effort that the Battlefield saga usually puts in improving the accessibility to the games of its players.
However, one of the most spectacular aspects of the game is the new dynamic weather and events system. The same map can be played sunny and clear or with an incredible storm that is accompanied by a tornado, which is traveling the map and affects the development of the game. It is an interesting addition and not at all heavy, as the tornado appears randomly every X games, so it is not something that will constantly modify the game.
On the other hand, we have not liked the addition of specialists to the detriment of the factions so much. Now it is more complicated than ever to know what each teammate does or even distinguish a friend from an enemy.
The ‘specialists’ do not quite convince us
A change in the colors of the specialist’s uniform depending on the team would solve this problem in one fell swoop, since as planned now they all look the same. And in beta, with everyone choosing the same specialist, it’s even more serious. In addition, many of the options of each specialist have gone to the background with respect to non-factions.
The medical class embodied in a specialist is less useful than now, and given the change in the development of the games that does not reward teamwork as much as we would like, some classesBeyond aesthetics, they do not have the expected utility. It would be another of the most welcome changes for the final version of the game.
As we say, the beta is quite limited and has given for what it has given. U a pretty interesting appetizer of the game, with some moments like the inclusion of tornadoes and weather effects that, despite the visual glitches, leave your mouth open. A small demonstration of what is to come and that without a doubt the month and a half ahead is going to be very long. Especially for those Battlefield moments.
