President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reported this Thursday that businessmen, workers and the government unanimously agreed to increase by 20% the minimum salary by 2023.
“We have good news for you, very good news, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the labor sector and, in a very special way, the business sector, because they have already reached an agreement to increase the minimum wage. Very early today they met and there is a consensus, that is, the worker sector, the business sector and the government agree,” said the federal president.
How is the minimum wage?
With this increase, the minimum daily wage for workers will go from 172 pesos to 207 pesos a day. This implies a monthly increase of 1,052 pesos. The daily wage will also rise in the free zone on the northern border. With this, it will go from 260 pesos to 312 pesos per day, an increase to 1,584 pesos per month.
In this way, as of January 1, the increase will reach around 6.4 million workers.
López Obrador stressed that his administration will continue to monitor inflation by controlling the price of gasoline and electricity.
