Social networks and the digital world have brought with them various terms that define a person, it can be in the United States or even in Mexico. One of these terms is that of the popular “Karen” who in Mexico is better known as “Lady“, but now she was recreated with her own action figure.
The expression ‘being a Karen’ is already part of American popular culture and even Latin America. This term is used to refer to a very specific type of privileged white woman. that he always makes a scene in a public place for some matter with a product that does not convince him, the rule of an establishment that irritates him, a moment of disagreement with a restaurant that makes him violent with the employees, among many other reactions that then it becomes memes for the Internet.
According to Know Your Memethis use of images appeared for the first time on the Reddit social network in 2014, and from then on it began to multiply in other social networks.
Likewise, Deborah Cameron, linguist and professor of Language and Communication at the University of Oxford, remarked before New Statesman America, that “names give social information. The feminine ones can be an indicator of age, socioeconomic profile and racial origin, this could be the reason why they chose this name for the memes”.
Karen can now “talk to the manager”
The “Karens” of the world can now celebrate, as their hard-to-digest character now comes in toy form. It is well known that “Karen” often demand to “speak to the manager” and act entitlement beyond the scope of what is normal.
To that end, Pennsylvania-based toy company Namespace has revealed that it will be producing tongue-in-cheek three-percent-inch action figures representing the world’s troublesome “Karens.”
The action figure will be sold together with a “Joe the Manager” figure, which is a store manager’s toy.
“We look for fun even in uncertain times like these”said Matt Jacquot, Namespace sales manager.
“And with these two characters, we want to encourage positive change and even encourage a little more tolerance.” he stressed.
Also, the toy company revealed that this toy was made with the help of independent Ukrainian designer, Denys Samboval, who helped them bring the despised personality to life.
“I am inspired by the everyday. We’ve all seen Karens or Joes in the news or in our everyday lives, so this project was easy to relate to.”Samboval said of the project.
Recently, there are several stories of “Karen” on social networks, as an example of the event that happened in a Panda Express in the United States, where a woman exploded against the employees of the place, since the consumer was more than dissatisfied due to the prices of the place.
While in Mexico there is the history of Lady Cinépolis, who asks him to lower his feet from the seat and accuses the employee of harassment. The incident was recorded by the employee involved who, after drawing the attention of the women for having their feet on the front seats, called the security elements, since, according to the available account, the assistants responded to the request with kicked the seats and she accused her of harassment.
In that sense, it is always worth mentioning that the phrase “the customer is always right” is not often correct.
