The Call of Duty franchise is coming with it all this year. Not only has new content been released regularly for Call of Duty: Vanguard, Warzone, and Call of Duty Mobile, but at least two new games will join the catalog by the end of the year.
On October 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released worldwide, and Activision has made it clear that it also plans to release the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone 2 later this year. Activision has yet to announce the official release date for Call of Duty: Warzone 2, but it appears the planned release date has been leaked online.
Now, a screenshot of what is said to be an internal Activision Blizzard document was shared on the World of Warcraft Classic subreddit, later picked up by Charlie Intel. The image claims that it shows important dates for Activision for the rest of 2022, and one of them is the apparent release date of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.
If said image turns out to be real, this implies that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 release date would be Wednesday, November 16. It is very possible that the image has been manipulated, or that the information is not updated, so all this must be taken with reservations. However, a November 16 release date makes sense, for a couple of reasons.
Since November is usually the biggest month of the year for new game releases, it would make sense for Activision to capitalize on the hype by releasing Call of Duty: Warzone 2 around that time. Warzone 2 would have an immediate advantage over the other big games releasing in November, because it will most likely be free-to-play, while the other games releasing that month will be paid titles.
Additionally, Warzone 2 would arrive a couple of weeks after the release of Modern Warfare 2, allowing the premium CoD experience some time in the limelight before moving players onto something new. We’ve seen Rockstar Games employ a similar strategy when successfully introducing online modes to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
However, only time will clarify all these doubts for Call of Duty fans.
