Honestly, there is no shortage of survival games on PC and consoles. From Don’t Starve Together and The Outer Wilds to the more realistic The Long Dark and horror-tinged experiences like The Forest, there’s a survival game for just about everyone.
The newly announced serum fits perfectly in the field of terror. It’s the first release from newly created studio Game Island, and it immerses players in a world of overgrown ruins, strange mutations, and glowing green drugs. Fans of survival horror games got their first look at this upcoming title in a short announcement trailer released recently.
And although the trailer is only 39 seconds long, it offers some glimpses of the set and gameplay of serum. The trailer opens with a man in a surgeon’s gown lying dead on the bloody floor of a dimly lit room. A trail of blood begins on something resembling a barber’s chair and runs off the screen.
The trailer then cuts to the first-person point of view of the protagonist of serum while climbing through the rubble of a partially collapsed building. The trailer soon introduces viewers to the titular Serum, which causes the protagonists’ veins to glow green when injected into their arm.
The following clips show a misty forest, a dilapidated house, and the ruins of a city filled with mummified corpses and mutated bugs.
The first proper gameplay segment comes just after the 13-second mark. Shows the main character serum scanning the environment with a handheld device, highlighting nearby resources. After a cut, they discover a tube of Serum at the feet of another corpse.
The next clip shows them running through the woods and fending off mutated wolves with a makeshift spear before another slash brings them into contact with a seemingly docile giant toad. The final clips take viewers back to the beginning, with dead scientists, spilled serum, and the protagonist stepping out into the light of day for the first time.
