Web3 is a term and a specific area of the crypto space and blockchain technology that has been shielded with a lot of support and optimism by those within this area. In order to collect various opinions and points of view from experts and connoisseurs of this area that has not yet reached its full form, the team of Cointelegraph in Spanish has talked with Martín González, CEO & Co Founder BAG (Blockchain Art Gallery), a Latin American marketplace for NFTs on the Ethereum network.
In the first place, González has said that web3 will be a much faster, safer and more open internet, based on blockchain technology that will also allow the user greater power than they currently have.
Likewise, he also explained that the subject is talked about so much because, in his opinion, we are probably facing one of the most important changes in the coming decades. “A paradigm shift that will change the way users use the Internet and the way many industries and services operate. The data is back in the hands of the users”commented after qualifyingr web1 as a website where the user only viewed the environment and accessed information through hyperlinks, and web2 where the user, in addition to viewing, began to edit information despite being based on large companies managing public and private information centrally .
In this sense, González also told us about the potential that web3 had in terms of privacy, according to him, being able to access web services with a signature that encrypts my private key and that in turn certifies who you are anonymously is a big step in recovering one of the pillars that has been lost: privacy.
“Because my medical history is public? Why are my browsing data, my tastes, my purchases, my hobbies public? Or rather, why is my data handled at the discretion of the state or a tiny group of companies?”argued González questioning.
“When the product is free, the product is you. When you own your data, you can probably even monetize it. Or not, it will depend exclusively on your decision.said.
The importance of privacy
According to González, in times when cold war rhetoric is heard again, when nationalist leaderships resurface, when in pursuit of other values such as freedom or the common good, values are degraded in an increasingly aggressive way, privacy is a right that is has largely lost and almost without realizing it.
“A large amount of our data, tastes, movements and finances are stored either by centralized state or private entities, generating a very dangerous monopoly. Information is power”assured by saying that maintaining the privacy of our data is and will be a fundamental part of our development as individuals and as a group.
And the importance of web3?
Secondly, González was emphatic affirming that privacy is only one of the edges of the web3Well, it represents much more than that. In his opinion, the decentralization and “tokenization” of physical assets on a large scale through NFTs and fungible tokens will be the great leap in the coming years.as they will allow thousands of industries and various services to use blockchain technology.
“Although it represents a challenge. The companies that know how to adapt to this technology the fastest will undoubtedly have an advantage over the competition”Gonzalez mentioned.
“For users it means a great opportunity. An opportunity to become owners, to work and interact in a community way, asserting the privacy and rights that we have gradually lost”he added.
Finally, González also concluded by saying that DAOs will be highly relevant in private and public spheres, since the changes will not only be economic and technological.
“Web3 brings with it very powerful political and social changes as well”he explained.
