Inadvertently, a series of videos posted on TikTok became the best advertisement for Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant.
For the new generations, technology is part of their lives. They were born with it and they witness how it advances by leaps and bounds on a daily basis.
In other words, it seems that they are no longer surprised by anything in terms of technological advances, which is why it is much easier for them to adapt to changes and new trends.
However, for another sector of the population, that of adults, any product of this era represents a whole world to discover. They, the adults, are not familiar with terms like Spotify, Shazam, Facebook, TikTok, Amazon, HBO, Alexa, among a long list more.
Their experience with technology is different and, for better and for worse, they are much more disconnected from it, although there are times when they have had to learn to use it.
A clear example of this can be seen in a series of videos that recently caught the attention of users on TikTok, in which, unintentionally, the social network was advertising one of the most important Amazon products of the last few years: his virtual assistant, Alexa.
These videos show older people (grandparents) using Alexa and being surprised by what is happening at that moment, since they only had to ask for a request (such as requesting music from Agustín Lara) to realize the “magic” of Alexa.
A newspaper in Mexico compiled several videos into one and, immediately, it went viral thanks to the reaction that, at that moment, grandparents have when they see how Alexa works, a fact that, undoubtedly and inadvertently, became in great publicity for Amazon’s virtual assistant.
And, as we have already seen, TikTok is a very powerful social network thanks to its enormous reach and that, however, grows over time.
Since the arrival of the pandemic, the Chinese social network has managed to position itself as the platform most used by young people and, today, it is a great tool for eCommerce, so much so that various brands work with very popular content creators to position their products.
That is why, when said video went viral, it has put Amazon and its assistant, Alexa, on the map, because thanks to TikTok it received free publicity.
Although it is true that Alexa has been in the market for a few years, there are a considerable number of people who do not adapt so quickly to this type of technology, that is why the videos that we present above caught the attention of users of the social network, it was treated as if they had discovered a new world with the Amazon assistant.
Without a doubt, this only proves, once again, that TikTok is a great platform for brands. You don’t have to spend millions on advertising campaigns to reach millions of consumers.
