There is such a wide range of dog croquettes of various brands that it is difficult to choose which is the best for your ‘loin’, since the ideal food depends on various factors, from the age and breed of the dog, the preparation and nutrients of the products and, above all, that they fulfill what they promise.
In this sense, the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) analyzed 46 dry food products and reviewed these variables:
- The croquette formulas analyzed
- The quality and quantity of its ingredients
- Quality controls carried out by companies to guarantee that their products have an adequate and homogeneous production.
Likewise, Profeco reviewed that the information contained in the labels complied with the requirements of NOM-061-ZOO-199 and NOM-012-ZOO-1993. In addition, it was based on the recommendations of the American Association of Feed Control Officials (American Association of Feed Control Officials, AAFCO) to know if a food is complete and balanced.
The Profeco study found that some dog croquettes sold in our country failed to comply with official standards regarding the minimum amount of protein, or to declared net or nutrient content.
The study, the results of which are published in number 577 of the Consumer Magazine, corresponding to the month of July, had the objective of determining the composition of the products and verifying the veracity of the information contained on their labels, in addition to informing the consumer their quality.
The tests consisted of evaluating their commercial information and verifying the net content and nutritional content (proteins, fat, humidity, ashes and fiber).
