Vaccination, certificate and COVID test
Persons entering the territory by air must have a complete vaccination schedule for antigens approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the World Health Organization (WHO).
To verify that this is the case, travelers must present a vaccination certificate issued by a government entity.
The following documents will be accepted:
- Vaccination certificates with a QR code or a digital pass via a smartphone application with a QR code, such as those issued by the United Kingdom’s National Health Services and the European Union’s digital COVID certificate. The QR code must lead to information confirming that the certificate was generated from a vaccination record in an official information base.
- Printing of the COVID-19 vaccination record or a COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued at the national or subnational level or by an authorized vaccine provider, such as the CDC immunization record.
- Digital photos of the vaccination card or record, downloaded vaccination record or vaccination certificate from an official source or a mobile application without a QR code.
The measure applies to all passengers: US citizens, legal permanent residents and foreigners.
What vaccines are accepted in the United States?
The accepted vaccines are Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and CanSino, in the case of a single dose vaccine, and Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZenexa, Covaxin, Covishield, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Novavax and Covavax vaccines in the case of of two-dose vaccines.
The White House notes that different combinations of vaccines for the first dose and boosters will also be allowed. It also includes those vaccinated in clinical trials.
This excludes for now travelers immunized with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
In addition, the United States will require airlines to collect information from travelers that allows US health authorities to locate them after entering the country in the event of infection or contact with an infected person.
What about unvaccinated travelers?
Unvaccinated travelers – whether they are US citizens, legal residents or foreign passenger exceptions – will have to show a negative COVID-19 test carried out the day before their flight, Aeroméxico details on its official website.
