The greatest reward that a health professional can receive is the gratitude of their patients, although it is not the only one. As in any job, there is also a salary as an economic payment for the performance of a job. And in addition, there are also recognitions for the most outstanding elements, as happened with those who are considered the best doctors and nurses in CDMX.
If something became evident during the pandemic, it was that health personnel are fundamental and indispensable. Thanks to the collaboration of each one, it was possible to achieve the recovery of millions of infected patients.
In the same way, the other great challenge was to continue with the care of the other diseases. With the hospital conversion, we sought to guarantee the service to Covid-19 patients but also to the rest of the population.
Recognition for the best doctors and nurses in CDMX
Based on all of the above, the Senate of the Republic of the Congress of the Union ordered the delivery of the Medal “Dr. Matilde Petra Montoya Lafragua”. In this case, the 120 best doctors, nurses, nurses and staff in general of the hospital network of the CDMX Health Secretariat were chosen. The objective is to value, recognize and thank their effort and dedication in the service and because they put their lives at risk during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this regard, Senator Emilio Álvarez Icaza pointed out that it is important to take time to thank and bring to mind characters like the Doctor Matilde Petra Montoya Lafraguawho was the first health professional to receive, in 1887, the title of Doctor.
“She was a pioneer of Medicine in Mexico and paved the way for personnel in the Health Sector, where most of them are women. Because she opened that door and that is what the health service represents, which, for me, are two things: love and service, since it takes loving people to care for them. From my worldview, it is what is called love of neighbor with the idea of caring and serving”.
He also commented that the Covid-19 pandemic “hit very hard” in Mexico City, an entity that became one of the epicenters, where there were personnel from the Health Sector who gave their lives in the service and not even in the best conditions of job. One of the reasons was because in many cases they did not have the minimum equipment.
“People are of myths, rites and symbols and, based on them, we are building our communities. That is why it is important to take the time to recognize and thank”.
He explained that this medal was instituted in this context, because it is necessary to send a message that the effort made by the Health Sector personnel is valued, recognized and appreciated.
