The one constant for all health professionals is that preparation is never done. It is necessary and mandatory to keep an eye on the different developments that appear in order to have up-to-date knowledge. With this in mind, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) released a new free course aimed at all doctors and the information is useful for you.
With the aim of continuing to promote digitization, Cofepris convenes the virtual and free course on the Vigiflow tool. It is a tool in which any safety problem related to the use and consumption of medicines and vaccines can be reported.
Content of the free course taught by Cofepris
This 10-hour self-management course will be available from September 12 to November 4 through the platform MexicoX. It is aimed at health professionals with knowledge in pharmacovigilance (PV), as well as personnel from the Institutional VF Centers, the VF units within the National Health System, the State VF Centers and the Institutional VF Coordination Centers.
In this training you will learn to enter information regarding Suspected Adverse Drug Reactions (SRAM), Adverse Drug Reactions (RAM), Adverse Events (AE), Events Supposedly Attributable to Vaccination or Immunization (Esavi) or any other safety issue related to the use of medications and vaccines.
The importance of this platform is to facilitate the transfer of information, approved and standardized in accordance with international parameters, on the basis of World Health Organization (WHO)/Uppsala Monitoring Center (UMC, for its acronym in English), for the analysis of the safety of drugs and vaccines. This drug surveillance exercise has been carried out in our country since 1999.
What does Cofepris work for?
In the first instance, it is necessary to remember that Cofepris was born in 2001. From the beginning it was established that it would be a decentralized administrative body of the Health Secretary (SSa), with technical, administrative and operational autonomy. Its main task is to be the governing body in terms of health control and regulation throughout the country.
Since then she has been in charge of analyze and authorize the operation of all products, devices and establishments related to health. It ranges from pharmaceutical laboratories, medicines, pharmacies and clinics of all kinds. In sum, all of them are equivalent to almost 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to current calculations, Cofepris regulates 44 cents of every peso spent by households in Mexico. The figure is obtained through three sectors that it regulates: food, beverages and tobacco; health care items; and personal care items.
