For an actor, no matter what moment he’s facing, it’s hard to choose which movie he’s going to get into. Surely, all sign with the illusion of having at least a discreet success at the box office or an outstanding participation. But many times things do not go as expected. Thanks to bad scripts, casting done under questionable criteria, or post-production processes that turned out to be appalling, these actors hate their own movies. Here we present the most outstanding cases.
Robert Pattinson – Twilight
Although the success of that franchise made it known to the whole world, the now Batman is not very happy with his participation in said vampire romance. The funny thing is that he even expressed it during the junkets of press of each film in the saga. In one of many interviews, the Briton mentioned that he would have even hated the saga if he hadn’t participated in it. But let’s be honest, would his career have been the same?
Emma Stone – hello
In 2015, this pretend comedy was looking for acceptance from the audience and critics. It had the performances of Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray and John Krasinski, in addition, it had Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) as director. The movie was a complete flop, but that’s not why Stone hates it. His character was of Hawaiian and Chinese descent, something that does not coincide at all with his physiognomy. The actress admits that she took the role from an actress with those characteristics, but she admits that that experience taught her a lot about the “whitewashing” from Hollywood.
Alec Baldwin – rock age
Warner Bros., Tom Cruise and many others expected this musical to be a hit in the summer of 2012. But failure was imminent. The reason? Critics and audience agreed that the movie was a disaster. Baldwin himself also admitted it for The Wrap:
“It was a complete disaster. Within a week you say to yourself: ‘Oh, God, what have I done?’”.
Rooney Mara – Peter Pan
Joe Wright’s address (pride and prejudice), plus the appearance of Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, and a budget of $150 million dollars promised a great adventure in the cinema. Unfortunately, the adaptation and casting were a disaster. Rooney Mara gave life to Tigrilla, an indigenous girl from Neverland, and like Emma Stone, her physical characteristics did not match what might be expected.
“I really hate hate hate being on that side of the conversation about him. whitewashing. I really do. I don’t want to be on that side ever again. I can understand why people were upset and frustrated, ”she commented for usa today.
Jake Gyllenhaal – The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Ah, Disney and its so-called franchises. In 2010, this adaptation of the famous video game hit screens around the world. Does anyone remember her? Surely Jake Gyllehaal, its protagonist, only does it because of bad memories. The “whitewashing” and the bad reviews put an end to any intention of making more movies.
“I think I learned a lot from that movie because I spend a lot of time trying to be thoughtful about the roles I’m choosing and why I’m choosing them. And you will surely make a mistake. This was one of them, ”he mentioned to Yahoo!.
Halle Berry – catwoman
For better or worse, it’s not just Halle Berry who hates this movie. Fortunately, the actress went to receive the Razzie that she won for her appearance in this failed film. Ironically, in her thank you speech, she dedicated a few words to her then representative:
“He loves me so much that he convinces me to do projects even when he knows they are crap.”
Channing Tatum – G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
This is another one of those productions for which it is difficult to find a fan. Back then, Tatum was one of Hollywood’s targets for an action star. And this movie almost buried his career. As a good fan of the original characters, the also star of Magic Mike despises this production.
“They made me do it. The script was not good. And he didn’t want to do something he’d been a fan of since he was a kid, I’d see him every morning growing up, and he didn’t want to do something that was initially bad. And two, I didn’t know if I wanted to be GI Joe,” he told Howard Stern.
Jessica Alba – The Fantastic Four
To be honest, in those days it was very frowned upon to play a superhero. And it didn’t help that Fantastic Four was, in a way, deplorable. However, it was also torturous for those within the production. Jessica Alba, the Invisible Woman of that tape, painfully remembers her participation in that story.
“I hated it. She really hated him. I remember when I died in Silver Surfer. The director said: ‘It seems too real. It seems too painful. Can you be prettier when you cry? Cry pretty, Jessica, ”he recounted to elle.
Do you agree with his opinion? What would have been of the career of all these actors without their films that they hate? Although they now see it as a bad time in their life, at least they learned important lessons for the rest of their career.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
