Hunting digital monsters in real parks and streets? Nothing to write home about if we think, among others, of the success of “Pokémon Go”. “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” brings the playful universe of the famous role-playing game series “The Witcher” to the mobile phone.
At first glance, “Monster Slayer” looks like a cross between “Pokémon Go” and “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite”. Players are warlocks who roam the roads battling monsters, including trolls, ghouls, and necromancers of all difficulty levels. In the beginning, however, novice warlocks are advised to focus more on beginner-level opponents.
The fights are controlled through the touch screen. Fast finger strokes are light attacks, slow ones are more forceful attacks. To know what the best strategy is, you have to know the monsters. What attacks harm them? Can they be fought with fire? Will a little magic, drawn on the screen at the right time, help?
You also have to learn how to defend yourself against attacks. Each battle won brings experience points and items: the warlock, initially weak, gains strength and abilities over the course of the game.
And there are also missions. At first, for example, you can help a merchant who has been robbed. The adventure begins with a beautiful animated scene. Next, you have to go to a marked point on the map, where the outcome is decided and other missions with a similar plot begin.
“The Witcher: Monster Slayer” uses Google Maps for navigation. Usually this works out of the box, but sometimes the game also shows paths where there are none. The same thing happened at the beginning with “Pokémon Go”, so it is recommended not to forget that the fact that the game shows something does not mean that you always have to go there.
Actually, “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” is a free game. However, in the no-pay variant, players have to work very hard to reach their goals quickly. Whoever wants to progress faster, will have to invest a little money through in-app purchases. “The Witcher: Monster Slayer” is available for Android and ios.
