- Threads, the social network from Meta Platforms, has reached more than 100 million users since its launch, fueled in part by its integration with Instagram.
- Despite the launch of Threads, numbers shared by Elon Musk indicate that Twitter saw a 3.5% increase in platform usage globally.
- I found out what happened in Latin America.
Since it was born, Threads, the Meta Platforms social network that seeks to compete directly with Twitter, has already added more than 100 million users.
He achieved them, in large part, thanks to the ease of opening an account from Instagram, which has more than 2,000 million active accounts.
A week after the birth of Threads, it was not known, until now, how this new competitor had impacted Twitter?
The numbers that Elon Musk has, at least what he shares with the public, are positive, which would show that he has not felt the impact of Threads.
Indeed, in one Twitter postthe CEO of Tesla and SpaceX shared figures on the increase in “User Total Active Seconds” on Twitter noting that usage increased 3.5% week-over-week globally.
“Platform usage up 3.5 percent week-over-week,” he tweeted Friday night, July 14, along with an accompanying image showing Twitter usage data.
According to the data he shared on the site, the majority of active users, nearly 87 percent of people, were using the platform on mobile devices.
The UK had the most second active users on Twitter at 7.2 percent, followed by Japan at 5.7 percent.

Use of Twitter in Latin America
The advance also applies to Latin America. According to Musk’s data, the use of Twitter in Latin America grew by 2.34% in the total for the platform and by 2.74% in the case of cell phones.
The calculation is made between Thursday, July 6, 2023, when Threads was launched, and Thursday, July 13, exactly one week later.
Seeing Japan’s numbers so high, one user commented on Musk’s post: “Is Twitter really bigger in Japan than it is in the US?”
Another user commented: “Wow, Mobile is 87.6 percent of active seconds. If so, I recommend prioritizing mobile development over desktop.”
What is “creator ads revenue sharing”, from Twitter
A few hours before Musk published the numbers related to the use of Twitter, the platform announced a new form of monetization for content creators, under the name of “Creator Ads Revenue Sharing”.
The idea is to allow some creators to share a portion of the revenue generated by ads that appear in replies to their tweets.
The company gave details of the initiative through a post on its corporate blog, highlighting its commitment to “helping people earn money directly on Twitter.”
According to the statement, ad revenue sharing will be available in all countries where the Stripe platform supports payments.
To be eligible to participate in this program, creators must meet certain requirements.
For one, they need to be a Twitter Blue subscriber or a verified organization. Also, they must have reached at least 5 million impressions on their posts in the last 3 months. You must also have an active Stripe account.
