Learn the history of Pink Venus and the feminist struggle, a cause that does not stop. Over the years, we continue to see the emergence of movements that seek to make visible the violence and inequality that women face daily. Some more popular than others, but all seek to break the silence in the face of injustice, that was the intention of Daniela del Río in 2019.
The young student who divided opinions five years ago is today taking her creativity to new directions. One of those paths of hers has even taken her to several film festivals.
Daniela, the student who “danced for everyone”
Approximately 7 women were murdered daily in the country during 2023 due to gender issues, according to figures from the Violence against Women report of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP). Feminist protests to raise their voices are increasingly common (and necessary).
In 2019, Daniela del Río, a student at the Faculty of Visual Arts of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), carried out one of the most notorious acts of denunciation. Her participation in the last years of the history of feminism in our country soon went viral on social networks.
As a protest against a situation of sexual harassment within the educational institution and in which the resignation of the teacher accused of such acts was requested, Daniela performed a dance that, she claimed, was for “all those who are no longer here.”
The performance of the woman from Monterrey spread quickly on social networks, unleashing all kinds of reactions, from those that joined her anger and validated the cause that motivated it; But her protest was also distorted with memes and ridicule due to the “eccentricity” of the student's choreography and performance.
Rosa Venus, the new facet of the Protestant feminist
Jumping to fame for this event and overcoming all the ridicule around her, prompted the young choreographer to exploit her creativity and create a career that is paying off today.
A few years ago, Daniela Ríos entered the music industry under the name Rosa Venus, fusing electronic rhythms with pop or indie rock. Her songs have caught the attention of users of various platforms such as YouTube or Spotify where the young woman shares her work.
The influencer with more than 17 thousand followers on Instagram has created a concept around femininity, love or sensuality, in addition to embracing the fight for the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.
The choice of her first single “Lo prohibited” as the soundtrack of the short film “Peccadillo”, directed by the filmmaker, Sofía Garza-Barba, made Rosa Venus' artistic career take off and cross borders. Her song was then heard at important film festivals such as Queer Film Festival in Playa del Carmen or at the Hollyshorts Film Festival, held in Hollywood, which the artist incidentally attended.
Today, the young woman who “danced for everyone” and who went viral for raising her voice against the violence that women face daily, is creating a platform that allows her to continue expressing emotions through music.
