nostalgia of the 90s is reaching unsuspected limits. Among the slew of reboots, remakes, late sequels and reunions that are coming, now the time has come for one of the movies from when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s talent to chain hits began to fail: ‘eraser’.
It is possible that the youngest of you do not know the original film, so let this old man tell you a little about what that was: between ‘Junior’ and ‘A father in distress’, Arnie returned to be the usual killing machine for a little while in 1996 playing a witness protection specialist who eliminated them from life (literally, put a body in its place and burn down their house) in order to give them a future. Sure there are more efficient ways, but in the late 90’s we weren’t into niceties.
The return of ‘Eraser’
Now, John Pogue has decided that it was time to resurrect the saga with the reboot of the saga: ‘Eraser: Reborn’. The plot is more or less the same: Mason Pollard fakes the deaths of high-risk witnesses, but, while protecting the wife of a mob leader, will have to flee from a group of assassins if he wants to survive and not be the perpetually eliminated.
It must be said that the experience of the screenwriter, Michael D. Weiss, does not give all the confidence that could: he is the author of works of art such as ‘The Scorpion King 4’, ‘Hostel III’, ‘The Butterfly Effect 2’ or the third part of ‘I know what you did last summer’. Of Pogue, the director, yes we can trust a little more: ‘Deep blue sea 3’ was surprisingly entertaining.
As for the star roster, well you can imagine the picture: Dominic Sherwood (‘Penny Dreadful: City of angels’) is the absolute protagonist, accompanied by McKinley Belcher III (‘Ozark’) shooting left and right in South Africa, with very angry hippos as gifts.
If you’ve been waiting for 25 years to learn more about the exciting universe of ‘Eraser’, you are in luckbecause the film will be released on June 7 in the US direct to DVD, Blu Ray and VOD, no scheduled date in Spain. oooh!
