The notch of the MacBook Pro does not have Face ID, but it does have other very interesting sensors.
Apple surprised everyone with the notch of the iPhone X, a way to have a screen as large and tight as possible, but with a small notch in which to hide a lot of technology. The surprise was repeated when we saw the design of the new MacBook Pro, the notch returned to the scene and for the first time we saw it on an Apple device other than an iPhone.
As with the iPhone, the notch of the MacBook Pro hides a lot of technology inside. Although it is true that we do not have a facial recognition system like Face ID, in the notch of the MacBook Pro there are many important sensors.
Apple has included the notch in the new MacBook Pros to try to gain screen space. Instead of leaving an upper frame for the camera and the rest of the sensors, we only have a small notch in the central area, which can also be hidden by software.
This is everything that the notch of the MacBook Pro includes:
- 1080p camera module.
- Camera status LED.
- TrueTone sensor.
- Ambient light sensor.
The main responsible for the notch is likely to be the front camera, which has a much larger sensor than previous Macs capable of capturing much more light. An improvement expected for many years.
We also have a LED that indicates with light if the camera is activated, the sensor Truetone to correct screen colors for ambient light and ambient light. ambient light sensor to raise or lower the screen brightness.
Although the notch is close to disappearing in the iPhone range, it seems that on Macs it will start to be a trend. Rumors say the next MacBook Air will inherit its older brother’s design and will also include a notch.
