To say that this is something that the software giant has already carried out on several occasions over the last few years and that it is also reaching the new Windows 11. But in these lines we want to focus again on Windows 10, system version that just received a new patch. Specifically, we are referring to KB5011543 being shipped to supported computers as a preview cumulative update.
We tell you all this because the aforementioned update brings with it a new feature called Search Highlights. To give us an idea, this is a feature built into the system that Microsoft uses to show us ads that are trending, holidays, anniversaries, or important moments in your area. In addition, all this appears in a section as important as the search engine integrated into Windows.
Something similar happens in the most professional editions of the system, since they are usually focused on the company. Here we are going to find information related to the contacts, most used files or updates of the company as such, all this instead of obtaining results from the web. At first we could see this in Windows 11, but Microsoft said that it would also come to Windows 10. And that is precisely what has happened right now through the update KB5011543.
To see all these new features in the preview version of the system, we just have to click on the taskbar search box.
Windows Finder advertising can be disabled
From that moment on, Insiders will see the new interface with the featured and advertising sections of the search. So we only have to click on one of these entries to open the result in the default web browser. With everything and with it, it may be the case that we install this new patch from Windows Update, but we do not see this new feature working. The reason for that is that this advertising feature is gradually being rolled out between users in different phases.
That is, it may be the case that it has not yet reached us, but it will in the coming weeks. Likewise, all this means that it could take several months until it is available to all users. Admittedly, some people may find this new feature useful. But probably most users will not be interested in this automatic advertising, so it can be disabled.
This is something that can be done through the Windows 10 Group Policy Editor. To access this tool, we run the Gpedit.msc command. In the window that appears, we go to Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components > Search. Thus, in the right panel we place ourselves in Allow search highlights, where we establish its value as disabled.
We should know that at the same time patch KB5011543 fixes a problem in the SearchIndexer.exe component that made it stop responding Remote Desktop. Likewise, a button display error in the login window has been corrected.
