The new IONIQ 6 has been hunted in tests, a very interesting spy video that shows some details of the new electric saloon that the Hyundai Koreans are already preparing for the end of 2022. A high-end model with which they will cover the Dy E segments in which the brand does not have a presence in Europe.
The future Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been hunted in evidence again, somewhere in the United States. The Korean firm is carrying out the development of the fourth electric model of the Korean giant on the other side of the Atlantic and around the headquarters in South Korea, not yet sighted in Europe.
The spy video is not very sharp, but it does reveal some interesting details. Based on the Hyundai Prophecy concept unveiled in Spring 2020, the footage shows a saloon of large proportions – it will reach 4.9 meters in lengthd– with a very traditional silhouette, and a curved roof line that ends in a more sporty rear volume. The rims have a very sporty and aerodynamic design, at the same time, practically completely closed.
The new Hyundai IONIQ 6, testing in the United States, one of its future markets
The future Hyundai IONIQ 6 2022 will be a high-flying electric saloon
We can also see that headlights are stretched lengthwise towards the front wings, narrow with a lower band that will be occupied by the LED daytime running light and by the indicators, with a completely closed, very rounded front in the middle and with the grill in the lower part of the bumper. A special design to minimize the aerodynamic drag coefficient, of which the star brand has already taken the crown by pointing out that the new Mercedes EQS is the most aerodynamic model on the market.
This is precisely what Koreans are trying to overcome. At the opposite pole, they even see part of the pilots, which will follow a pattern of a thin ribbon, a more elegant, sophisticated and modern design. The IONIQ 6 will also have a minimalist interior, with a large screen occupying the dashboard, as in the IONIQ 5, and a large interior space, especially in the rear seats. And it is remarkable the larger rear overhang.
The new electric model, Hyundai’s second based on the E-GMP platform, will be offered with the same configuration of one and two electric motors than the IONIQ 5, although battery capacity will vary to deliver a maximum autonomy typical of high-end models, with between 650 and 700 kilometers. What is possible thanks to the longer wheelbase. A more than advanced development that will culminate in the second half of 2022 when it will be officially unveiled.
