Eduardo Erlo, Marketing Manager of Status, the messaging app, crypto wallet and browser, has shared with Cointelegraph en Español its views on the new generation of the internet that wants to be built on blockchain technology, Web3.
According to Erlo, Web3 is the new generation of the Internet which introduces the concept of trustless applications (which do not need a third party) and decentralization, which helps in resistance to censorship and transparency in the use of data.
Also, he pointed out that privacy in Web3 has great potential as it is embedded in their culture mainly with the idea of using your blockchain wallet address as your profilefunctioning as an online identity.
“That way, no one needs to provide any personal data or password to access the apps. Instead, you just need to connect a wallet or sign a blockchain transaction to prove your identity and use the services.”Erlo said.
“This will ensure fewer privacy data leaks and companies using your personal data for illicit purposes”he added.
In this sense, Erlo highlighted the importance of privacy, explaining that the current web (web2) is very comfortable, with the result that most of the services we use seem to be free, when in fact we are giving them one of our most valuable assets: our personal information.
“Data is power, with data, companies have the ability to increase their revenue based on the data they collect from us by selling ads, or even slowly influencing the content we see and what we think”said Erlo before also saying that companies will need to be more aware of what personal data they are collecting and what the purpose of this collection is.
As for users, Erlo said that Web3 As well as meaning more security in your personal data, it will also mean more responsibility in what you do online.
Finally, Erlo spoke about freedom of expression, stating that Web3 will also be important for censorship resistance. “Mass surveillance is a real problem that occurs in many places, and web3 helps solve this by making it technically almost impossible to detect what information people are accessing and what or who they are talking to”he concluded.
