Cadillac has confirmed that pre-sale of its first electric SUV will begin in China before the end of this year. The first deliveries of the new Cadillac Lyriq in the Asian country will take place in 2022. The General Motors brand has decided to bet very hard on the world’s first market for electric vehicles.
China has become a key market for the brand over time Cadillac. There the American firm reaps a very important part of its sales. In addition, taking into account the role that the Chinese territory plays in terms of electric mobility, it was clear that the Asian country would not go unnoticed on the offensive that Cadillac is making in the field of electrification.
The new Cadillac Lyriq will arrive in China, the world’s first market for electric vehicles. General Motors has officially announced some of the keys to how the commercial launch of the new Lyriq will take place in Chinese dealerships. And the truth is that there is a lot of expectation, since it will have to deal with the growing local supply of electric SUVs.
All set for the pre-sale of the new Cadillac Lyriq in China
The Pre-sale of the new Lyriq will start in China before the end of this year. In addition, it will be produced locally. Specifically in a factory located in Shanghai and operated by the joint venture that General Motors maintains with SAIC. The first pre-production copies have already left the assembly line. The commercial launch will officially occur next year. And of same away, the first deliveries will take place sometime in 2022.
Last August it was announced that, in the United States, one of the main markets for the new Lyriq, deliveries of the model will start in early 2022 and that the starting price is set at $ 58,795 (€ 50,145). The order book has already been opened. The model is equipped with a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery and is equipped with a 255 kW (346 hp) motor and 440 Nm of maximum torque on its rear axle. The maximum autonomy will exceed 480 kilometers on a single charge.
Throughout the turbulent year 2020, the sales of electric cars in China reached one million units, which compared to the previous year represented a growth of 16.1%. So far in 2021, that is, in the period between January and August, the registrations of electric cars in the Chinese territory have accumulated 1,400,000 units, 227.9% more compared to 2020.
Taking into account these sales figures, it is logical that the great giants of the global automotive industry decide to “try their luck” in the Chinese market with their new electric vehicles. The new Lyriq will not have it easy at all, but it will have the support of the rest of the Cadillac range and of GM itself.
