If something characterizes the tireless fight of the X-Men, it is the human opposition to their existence, here a top of the most lethal anti-mutant groups.
By Giobany Arevalo Ruiz
Hated and feared by a world they are sworn to protect, the X-Men have come under constant attack from radical human organizations that want their total extermination. Here are some of the most dangerous and willing to show that Homo Superior is not the next step in evolution.
The Purifiers
These fanatics believe that mutants are abominations, so they are in a “holy war” against them. The most notable member of this group is the infamous Reverend William Stryker.
First apparition: Marvel Graphic Novel #5 (November, 1982)
Awakening Project
After several years of pressure from extremist groups and part of society, the United States government secretly creates a program to monitor and combat mutants.
First apparition: New Mutants #1 (March 1983)
friends of humanity
Led by Graydon Creed, this group is one of the main promoters of the Mutant Registration Act, which would force all Gen-X carriers to register with the US government and reveal their abilities.
First apparition: Uncanny X-Men #291 (August 1992)
church of humanity
Such is the hatred that this religious group has against mutants, that they created Mr. Clean, a Super Soldier who has eliminated a large number of X carriers, mainly in London. One of his worst acts was crucifying, right in front of the X-Mansion, mutants like Jubilee, Husk, and Skin.
First apparition: Uncanny X-Men #395 (Aug. 2001)
The Sapien League
Unlike the Friends of Humanity, who pummel mutants politically, this terrorist cell is dedicated to hunting down and killing the Children of Atom. They became famous for directly attacking the X-Mansion.
First apparition: Decimation: House of Men-The Day After #1 (January 2006)
The Human Council
One of the most violent organizations on record to date, their goal is simple: harm or kill as many mutants as possible using the latest technology. At the helm is Bastion, a hybrid between Sentinel and Nimrod. It is one of the most dangerous anti-mutant groups.
First apparition: X-Force #3 (June, 2008)
