Sergio Agüero, also known as “Kun” Agüero is an Argentine former soccer player and businessman who played as a striker. The last team where he played was FC Barcelona of the Spanish First Division. He also had an important career in the Argentine soccer team. He is currently a streamer and CEO of the “KRÜ Esports” team. Cointelegraph en Español spoke with him to find out his perspective on cryptocurrencies and the metaverse, among other topics.
Fernando Quirós (FQ): What is your opinion about cryptocurrencies?
Sergio “Kun” Aguero (SKA): I think that well managed they can be useful. The technology is very precise and gives us a lot of possibilities. Like everything, you have to know how to use it for good and distinguish what is serious from what is not.
FQ: What potential does this so-called metaverse have for you?
S.K.A.: Well, since I got into streaming and eSports, I’ve been very interested in connecting with my audience in a more interactive, entertaining and close way. I started hearing a lot about the metaverse. At first I didn’t understand it that much, but seeing my son Benja and paying attention to my digital community, I realized that younger generations also have fun connecting with their friends in spaces that combine video games, social networks and communities. Much more than connecting through text messages. I explored the topic and realized that the metaverse is an immersive, interactive and active way to meet my audience, and that it allows me to create my own world and tell my story in a different way.
FQ: What is the Kuniverse and what is your role there?
S.K.A.: It is my own space in the metaverse The SandBox, which is called Kuniverse, a space similar to a large stadium where my community can meet and have fun with soccer games, music, food, challenges and many more things that will be happening . We have tried to build a place with experiences for my community to enjoy and have a good time with me, streamers and surprise guests. My fans will be able to purchase one of 9,320 unique and exclusive avatars. My role within Kuniverse will be to interact with my community. I want it to be a space where they play and have a good time with me and my guests.
CF: Why 9,320 avatars? What’s so special about them?
S.K.A.: For me it is a very significant number. It was the exact minute I scored the goal against Queen Park Rangers and gave Manchester City the much-remembered Premier League after a 44-year drought, the most important goal of all the ones I scored. Also within these avatars there will be different sections that will be related to different stages of my career. Each one will be unique and will have its particularity: Football Kun, E-Kun, Future Kun, Robot Kun and Special Kun. Avatar owners will be able to participate in raffles, private events, play with me and much more.
FQ: How can you get your avatars?
S.K.A.: There is currently a whitelist on my Discord channel so that you can register and already have the possibility of being one of the owners of one of the 9,320 avatars. The time to enter this list was until October 27, since the public sale begins on November 1.
FQ: Do you think the technology and the metaverse will appeal to football fans? Why?
S.K.A.: Yes, definitely. I believe that technology allows fans of soccer and other sports to get much closer to their “idols”. What football fan wouldn’t want to interact, play or talk with their “idols”? On a personal level, technology and my social networks have allowed me to have a closer relationship with my community. An example was my twitch channel during the pandemic. And now it’s time for the metaverse.
FQ: How did you get into this technological universe? What is it that attracted you?
S.K.A.: I was always a very restless person and I also really like technology. Two years ago I founded my esports club “KRÜ” to give visibility to competitive video games and help the gaming sector grow in Argentina and Latin America. The experience was excellent and also with very good results. With that base, when I heard about the metaverse, with so many points in common with video games, it became clear to me that in the near future it will become something very important. And I wanted to be there.
FQ: When will the Kuniverse be playable?
S.K.A.: My space will be open from November 8 to 22, so I hope to meet you to play and interact. I will also be doing different streaming on my twitch channel with friends. We are going to have a good time with many streamers and I hope it will be the basis for sustained growth. The idea is that everyone who participates has an experience that entertains them and, what is more important, they connect and are in contact with many other people.
FQ: Is there a more direct interaction with the fans than in traditional football?
S.K.A.: There is a different interaction. I always tried to be close to my fans. In fact, I was one of the first to have accounts on social networks. The Twitter one, for example, I started in 2010, during the World Cup in South Africa. And so with the rest of the networks. It was a way of being more in touch because in professional football, because of everything that surrounds a player and the demands that come with it, it becomes more complicated. That’s why through gaming and Kuniverse I want the community to be much closer to me. I don’t want them to see me as an unattainable person, but as someone with whom they can interact, play, laugh, talk, etc.
