The second model of the new range of Maserati electric cars is already a reality. The Italian firm has just revealed what is its first zero-emission sports car, the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. A two-door model with a motor configuration that will offer really brutal performance in 2023.
Maserati continues with its strategy of parallel launches, with new combustion and 100% electric models. On this occasion, the new Maserati GranTurismo Módena and Trofeo have been joined by a truly unprecedented third option, that of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. A sports car that has nothing to envy to the traditional combustion versions, but rather the opposite, as its performance is truly abysmal and it is an important rival to beat.
The new GranTurismo Folgore has hardly any differences compared to the combustion model, so you will have to look for a few minutes to be able to detect the details that really make it stand out. The grill of the Trident is actually a closed panel, and are accompanied by discreet vertical air intakes at the ends of the defense. Clad in imposing aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels, it features bluish details specific on the three gills of the front wings or on the brand name installed on the back and gloss black decorative applications.

Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, a zero emission beast
Of course, it is perfectly recognizable by the no rear exhaust, a smooth bumper that has an insert in the rear area as an extension of the completely faired underbody, which allows not only to offer low aerodynamic resistance but also to provide extra protection for the battery. The interior of the new GranTurismo Folgore has also not been revealed, but it will feature the same luxurious atmosphere inside, with a minimalist transmission tunnel.
The electric GranTurismo shares the same platform as the combustion model, although with important modifications, since it has three electric motors, one front and two rear with which the trunk capacity is reduced to a meager 270 litres. All three units develop a whopping maximum power of 761 hpwith an impressive ability to distribute up to 400 hp at each rear wheel thanks to torque vectoring.
Maserati technicians have applied technology typical of Formula E, treating this electronic system as an electronically controlled differential and to which inverters with transmission cables are added. Silicium carbide, which allows faster energy transmission. The Italian sports car also has a powerful lithium-ion battery that is not housed between the axles, but rather occupies the space of the transmission tunnel. With a capacity of 92.5 kWh –net and usable 83 kWh-it is the perfect location to keep the center of gravity as low as possible and offer first-rate dynamic behavior and performance.
ND: Data not available, pending homologation
The new GranTurismo Folgore has 800 Volt technology, admitting a charging capacity of up to 270 kW, which means having up to 100 kilometers of autonomy in just 5 minutes. The Italian sports car has a new electrical and electronic network, capable of transmitting information in just two milliseconds, and with level 5 anti-cyber attack protection. The new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will reach the European dealers in the second half of 2023.
