About the application
The announcement of this application was issued recently Juan Carlos Machinenawho is currently Executive Coordinator of the Heritage Council of Historic Areas and Centers of San Luis Potosí. To incorporate into Magic Town of Xilitla To this list it is necessary to meet several requirements in order to be taken into account in this list. Among the special characteristics of this destination are incorporated the aroma of coffee, adventure activities, as well as an important architectural richness.
Today, in San Luis Potosi there are already three declarations as Cultural heritage of Humanityone through Camino Real de Tierra Adentroshared with 13 cities; another one for the prehispanic food of the country. The third was granted for the expression of the Flyers of Tamaletónalong with those of Papantla, Veracruz.
Regarding the national framework, Mexico has enrolled in the World Heritage List a total of 1,007 goods from around the world, of which 779 are cultural property 197 natural goods and 31mixed goods. Within the heading “Cultural Assets” highlights the inscription of 260 cities or historical centers considered of exceptional value.
These are the requirements that the Magical Town of Xilita requires to become a Heritage City:
The sites that are considered Heritage of Humanity in Mexico They are places that have met the necessary requirements set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) and that have been nominated for the international World Heritage program by the committee of the Unesco due to its exceptional cultural or natural importance.
What are the criteria?
Only sites that have a universal and exceptional meaning. Roughly speaking, all cultural assets that aspire to be part of this list must comply with one of these requirements.
- It has to be a representation of the creative genius of the human being.
- Attest to an important exchange of values and human knowledge over a period of time or within a cultural region of the world, in the development of architecture, technology, monumental arts or urbanism.
- Provide a unique or, at least, exceptional testimony; of a cultural tradition or of an existing or already disappeared civilization.
- Being a building or a landscape that is an example of a significant stage of human history.
- Acting as a relevant example of a tradition of human settlement, use of the sea or land, which is representative of one or several cultures or of human interaction with the environment. Above all, when it is vulnerable to the impact of irreversible changes.
- Being directly or tangibly associated with traditions or living events, with ideas, with beliefs, with artistic and literary works of outstanding universal significance. In this case, the committee assesses that it also meets some other criteria.
In the case of natives, the requirements are:
- Host very relevant natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty.
- Witnessing some stage of the earth’s history, whether it be geological processes or life testimonies.
- Give examples of a fundamental ecological and biological process in the course of the evolution of ecosystems.
- Host the most important and representative natural habitats for the conservation of biodiversity, including those that contain threatened species.
