For the first time in the history of the Mercedes C-Class, the range is expanded with a new body with crossover overtones. The new Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain, a special bet for those who do not want an SUV, is already on sale in Europe with two mechanical versions.
Mercedes has completely redefined the range of one of its most important models, the C-Class. If until now the model had four bodies, in this new generation it is limited to three and one of them completely unpublished. The manufacturer has moved the C Coupé and C Cabrio to a new range of models, but it has included a very practical variant and with a more off-road design.
The new Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain it’s a risky gamble, considering it has a seriously important competitor at its same height, the GLC. Despite this, Britta Seeger, Mercedes Sales Director, stated in her presentation at the last Munich Motor Show that “With the C-Class All-Terrain, we are adding a new variant in this successful segment to our strong range, along with the sedan and the Estate. Its most direct competitor is the Audi A4 Allroad.
Two engines for the new Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain
Based on the C-Class Estate, the new crossover is distinguished by the extra 21 millimeters in width presented by the black plastic protectors on the arches of the wheel arches, the front, rear and side skirts. The All-Terrain rides 17-inch series alloy wheels, with the available option of 18 and up to 19 inches.
Its interior does not present great differences compared to the family model, beyond the aluminum pedals that give a more sporty finish, so it also retains the great luggage compartment volume from 490 liters to 1,510 liters with the rear seats folded down, adding an extra height.
The range of the new Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain is limited to only two mechanical versions, the gasoline C 200 and the diesel C 220 d. Both are equipped with the 9-speed automatic transmission “9G-Tronic” and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Two blocks that develop a maximum power of 204 and 200 hp, respectively, and with48 Volt MHEV technology and a 20 HP electric motor. In addition, to emphasize the crossover character more dynamically, the brand offers the option of driving mode. “OFFROAD +”. Mercedes will communicate its prices shortly.
