There are still a few Mac models to transition to Apple Silicon. And among them is the 27-inch iMac, the huge. Now, a new rumor places the 27-inch iMac redesign in the first quarter of 2022, with mini-LED screen and ProMotion.
A 27-inch iMac with ProMotion and mini-LEDs
The 2021 iMac evolved to 24 inches this past spring. Grew from 21.5 inches up to 24 inches thanks to a reduction of frames. And with this redesign, the superior model was left in the pipeline.
OK, tweeted too early. The 27 “MiniLED screen is going in an iMac in Q1’22, not an external monitor. May see a monitor later. Still 24Hz – 120Hz variable refresh … Sorry for the confusion!

Ross Young is a reputed Asian display market analyst and CEO of a consulting firm specialized in the area. According to AppleTrack, it is 100% accurate on its six previous predictions. In a now-deleted tweet, Young claimed that Apple was working on a panel for an external 27-inch monitor, which according to the analyst actually belongs to an iMac.
At the same time, it does not rule out that in the future there will be a monitor of these characteristics. It also indicates how the technology ProMotion is coming to the large iMac. Its frequency will be different from that of the iPhone 13 Pro, as it will fluctuate between 24 and 120Hz. And the technology that supports it will be mini-LED.
A redesign to accompany his younger brother
On April 20, Apple unveiled the new 24-inch iMac in a surprising way. A team that had barely been talked about in previous rumors, suddenly made its stellar entrance. If we look at its screen, we had these general specifications:
- 24-inch 4.5K Retina display.
- Resolution of 4,480 x 2,520 pixels.
- 500 nits.
- P3 and True Tone.
That they are not bad at all, but in view of what was announced this week with the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, it knows little. Here we talk about an XDR Pro Display with a mini-LED panel and ProMotion, which are big words.
We do not know which processor this new model will carry, but we can expect it to be the M1 Pro and M1 Max almost certainly
According to Young’s rumor, this 27-inch iMac would have the same technology. Thus, the highest refreshment frequency would be reserved for the top iMac model. Apple may decide to add an option to upgrade the 24-inch iMac screen once its older brother is unveiled.
What is striking about all this is that we are talking about a 27-inch iMac and no larger than 30 or 32 inches as some rumors pointed out. If confirmed, this iMac would be just three inches larger.
