Lamborghini Squadra Corse plans to compete with five units of its new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The brand will have at least one car in GTD Pro, although a 2+3 model is being sought.
Lhe 24 Hours of Daytona in 2023 is going to be a real recital of premieres. The IMSA GTP class will see the debut of LMDh prototypes from Cadillac, Acura, BMW and Porsche, as it doesn’t look like any LMHs will be joining the party. However, the first big event of the year in the world of resistance will also see the first release of up to three GT3 vehicles new generation, two totally new.
The third in contention is the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2, new evolution of the successful car of the Italian firm. However, it is still not very clear how many units of the GT3 from the house of Sant’Agata Bolognese will be present at Daytona. In this regard, Giorgio Sanna as head of Lamborghini Squadra Corse has shed some light and has assured that, if the planned plans are fulfilled, representation will be high.
“We will have one car in GTD Pro for sure and I hope to have at least five cars running overall”
In fact, Sanna has assured that Lamborghini’s objective is have five Huracán GT3 Evo in the next edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona. At least one of these cars will have some factory support and will be entered in the GTD Pro class, while the rest will be in the hands of ‘customer teams’ in the GTD category.
In this point, Lamborghini does not rule out even betting on a 2+3 formula with two GT3s in the GTD Pro class, although this is a secondary objective. One way or another, Lamborghini still has a lot of work ahead of it as it must comply with the homologation of its car and start its production for delivery to customers, which will mean that the current Huracán GT3 Evo will still remain in action.

Great effort
When explaining Lamborghini’s intentions, Giorgio Sanna has stated: «We will have a car in GTD Pro for sure and I hope to have at least five cars running overall. Interest in North America is high. We have big requests for Super Trophy cars and also for our GT3. The car is fully developed by us».
«We have yet to see how we do. We are working. For cars that have been developed in the last two years, it will be possible to upgrade with a kit. We expect more than 40 cars to be running in Evo2 spec around the world next year. We have 20 vehicles already confirmed in the United States» added the head of Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
Response to customers
In this sense, Lamborghini has yet to define which structure represents the brand in the GTD Pro class and which ‘client-teams’ are the first chosen to use the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 at Daytona. From this point on, the brand will respond in the first place to the demand that exists in the United States -for a matter of calendar- before fulfilling orders for the Evo2 for the GT World Challenge and the DTM.
Returning to Daytona and the participation of the Huracán GT3 Evo2, it should be remembered that TR3 Racing was the team that has had some direct support from Lamborghini this year at Daytona and Sebring, but it is not clear that they will repeat in this role. In fact, It is not ruled out that GRT Grasser can return to the United States to manage the GTD Pro project, with teams like Peregrine Racing and NTE Sport/SSR as ‘client-teams’ in GTD.
