The A15 Bionic chip is 20% more powerful than the A14 Bionic and up to 50% better in graphics performance.
The way Apple presented the new iPhone 13 this year was somewhat different, especially when it comes to the A15 Bionic chip. Apple gave four important facts about the A15 Bionic chip, but did not compare it at any time with the A14 Bionic of the iPhone 12. Despite the fact that the graph of the evolution of power of the iPhone is usually a classic in the keynote of the iPhone.
During the event, Apple highlighted the A15 Bionic chip indicating that it had 15 billion transistors, 6 CPU cores, 15.8 billion neural engine operations per second, and it was 50% faster than the best competitive chip. There was no reference to the previous A14 Bionic chip, so we didn’t know how much it actually improved.
This has made many speculate about the little improvement that the A15 Bionic processor should have in terms of power, but nothing is further from the truth. We already have the first performance tests available, or benchmark, and they show us that the power has grown between 10 and 20% in the iPhone 13.
The A15 Bionic chip shows its power
The different iPhone 13s have already been tested on Geekbench 5, one of the best benchmarks on the market and capable of comparing results from different platforms. The test performs a series of operations and displays a score for the processor, we have a score using a single core of the chip, and another using all cores.
There are several iPhone 13s that they have passed the test, yielding similar results:
Geekbench 5 test on the iPhone 13 Pro:
- Test a single core: 1,730 points.
- Test a single multicore: 4,700 points.
For its part, the iPhone 12 achieves a score of 1,600 points in a single core and 4,000 in the multi-core test. This means that the A15 Bionic chip is 8% more powerful when using only one core and 18.5% more powerful when working at full capacity.
In addition to this test, Geekbench also performs another of graphics performance, and here the GPU of the iPhone 13 has shown all its power. The iPhone 13 Pro obtained a Metal score of 14,216, which is an increase of 55% compared to the score of 9,123 for the iPhone 12 Pro.
It should be remembered that in this case, the A15 Bionic chip of the iPhone 13 Pro is slightly higher than that of the iPhone 13, although the truth is that in the day to day we will hardly be able to notice differences.
