Last week was World Happiness Week. And with this excuse, the consecrated interior designer Natalia Zubizarreta (here or here you can enjoy some of her work) gives us some advice to make our home an environment that make us happier. Something that after experiencing confinement we know is not only possible, but very necessary. Our house is not just a space for sleeping and shelter. It is also a place to reconnect, stop, work, … in short, where you can enjoy life.
The more time we spend at home, the more aware we are of the power of interior design in our happiness and well-beingr. In Natalia Zubizarreta’s studio they have been studying and working for years the relationship between emotions and spaces. As a result of this experience, the interior designer shares five essential tips so that your home has good vibrations, and you can create an atmosphere of warmth and happiness. Because as Zubizarreta says, the greatest honor you can do to your home is to live in it and enjoy it.
A clean and tidy home
In the most Marie Kondo style -which ensures that the path to happiness passes through order-. In Natalia’s studio they know that a good interior design project starts from a good design studio. the distribution and for that the users will have to sift and keep the essential. It is useless to make your house beautiful if it is going to be full of things that are no longer used. We must get rid of the old so that, between the good and the new, is one of the maxims of Natalia Zubizarreta’s studio. The team always encourages its clients to detach themselves from the material during the development of the project to keep the essentials, the well-being that this produces is enormous.
Screen, screen and more screen. This will help you to be more orderly and to have a more harmonious house. And it is that the disorder produces visual noise and stress, in addition psychologically, it is related to a lack of appreciation. So now you know, start by loving yourself more and with a tidier house.
For a happy home, create a soft, neutral and harmonic design base
Creating a box or neutral container will be a blank canvas perfect to risk with the smallest elements such as furniture or decorative objects. The interior with clear and homogeneous lines provides a lot of peace, light and harmony. When we want to change something, the house does not impose a certain style or line on us, it lets us flow and make changes without being overwhelmed, this is fantastic for our psyche. If you want to give touches of differentiation, do it in elements that do not give you a headache if they tire you: a wall with striking wallpaper or a stronger color, furniture, decorative details, textiles…
natural materials
The human being needs connect with nature for your well-being. In fact, the most missed thing in confinement were the balconies, the closest thing to a breath of fresh air that we have in big cities. Hence, introducing natural elements or those that evoke them is “canelita en rama” for our day to day.
Impossible to imagine an interior without wood since this material brings warmth to the home and is like a hug. If you opt for woods in light, faded tones, they will never tire you and will always give warmth to your home. If you can combine them with natural fibers, stones, linen, cotton, wool, they will bring peace, harmony and good vibes to your home and by extension, to your life.
And of course, the interior designer does not forget the plants. yesi are natural, better than better, but if you are not good at them, now there are artificial ones so successful that they seem real. There are also preserved ones that are a middle ground between one and the other and work well. The goal is to feel closer to nature.
illumination
More than 50% of the success of an interior design project lies in the
illumination. Doing it well does not mean that you have to spend more money, but rather that the same focus located in a certain place with certain characteristics, radically modifies your home. Many fast fashion garments look luxurious in their windows why? precisely because of good lighting!
From the Zubizarreta studio they always advise have warm lightss, even in kitchen and bathrooms. This links us to the cave, to the heat of the fire and our most primitive brain sends the signal that we are safe and that translates into relaxation and well-being.
Personal pieces that give you a good vibe
Homes are personal spaces that should include pieces that give you good vibes, make you smile. You can do it by including some furniture with history that you restore or perhaps a piece of modern design that you love. It is that when you enter your house you think “I love this piece of furniture, how well I did when I bought it”. They don’t have to be expensive, they just have to make you happy. “At home I have several recovered pieces that I bought for very little, but having given them a second life with a new look (some stripped, others painted) I love seeing them in their “new life and home”,” says Zubizarreta. Always try to preserve something of the essence of an old house, whether it is some moldings that there were originals in the house, some doors you decided to keep or some shutters.
