Based on the Collins literary series, This franchise is set in the dystopian nation of Panem. Every year, its Capitol forces its twelve districts to send two young people—a man and a woman—to compete in the so-called “Hunger Games.” It is a sinister television show to reaffirm power and instill fear on the part of the Government, where the “tributes” are forced to survive in a hostile environment and fight to the death until only one person is left standing. When her little sister is chosen, Katniss Everdeen, she offers to replace her without hesitation. Now, she must trust her instincts to survive and unintentionally start a revolution that will transform Panem forever.
The four films starring the Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) instantly contacted the audience. Throughout its commercial run, The saga grossed a total of $2,955 million at the worldwide box office. If we add to that the sales of books, merchandise and other derivative products, we are talking about one of the most profitable franchises in recent decades.
Under the direction of Gary Ross (first delivery) and Francis Lawrence (the next three films), the saga also saw actors such as Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Mahershala Ali and Willow Shields, among many others.
