Almost two years ago we told you about BMW’s decision. Despite the fact that his star rival had decided to continue using the powerful V12 engine without any electrification, the Bavarians were inclined to cease production of this imposing engine. A moment that has come with a limited edition of units, those of the exclusive BMW M760i Final V12 that will only be sold in the United States.
The imposing V12 engine of the Munich brand had the days counted since, at the end of March 2020, we told you about the decision that BMW had taken in view of the strict CO2 emission standards that the European Union had planned to tighten. An engine that has only been used in the exquisite BMW BMW M760Li xDrive, a version with genes from M Performance but that the sports brand never considered taking out of its workshops.
In fact, I was planned an equivalent in the exclusive X7 and was also forgotten for this thorny issue. Considering that the new generation of the flagship is practically ready to debut and that it will not have engines larger than a V8, The American division of BMW has announced the cessation of production of this 6.6-liter engine with a special edition and limited to only a dozen units. The same number of cylinders that will hide under the hood the exclusive BMW M760i Final V12, a limited edition that also puts an end to the sixth generation of the 7 Series on the other side of the Atlantic.
The BMW M760i Final V12 will only have the same number of units as cylinders
BMW says goodbye to a brutal gasoline engine that has characterized the representative sedans of its history, since first premiered in 1987, so after 35 years it not only gives off a true badge, but hands over to powerful engines V8 with electrical assistance that will offer similar performance, even greater, with a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions figures.
The great proof is that neither the new generation of the 7 Series nor the exclusive XM have been conceived to use a V12. For now, the new special edition created has not been seen, but the brand in the United States has announced the specific details that it will present to distinguish itself from the rest of the versions. Apart from the e“V12” emblem on engine cover and rear, replacing “M760i”, will also stand out for the 20-inch alloy wheels painted in gray or black, to suit the customer, and the “M Sport” brakes with blue or black-coated calipers.
Inside, the slats on the door sills will bear the inscription “Final V12” and a plate with the number of the manufactured unit at the base of the center console, also adding a special livery in “Piano Black” from “BMW Individual”, and the following standard equipment:
- Choice of any of 80 ‘BMW Individual’ colors
- Choice of any shade of ‘BMW Individual’ Merino leather available
- Professional driving assistance package
- Deluxe rear seat package
- Sky Lounge panoramic LED roof
- Remote Parking Package
- Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system
- Icon Adaptive LED Laser Headlights
The BMW M 760i Final V12 will roll off the production lines in June 2022, with the powerful biturbo block capable of offering a maximum power of 600 CV, which will be transferred to the asphalt through an 8-speed sports automatic gearbox, and needing only 3.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Despite the proportions of the luxury sedan, it can reach a top speed of 305 km/h. Of course, not all customers who wish to have this model in the garage, and even having the 176,200 Euros that it will cost, will be able to get one of them. The brand has set a requirement: to have “a long history as the owner of a Series 7 V12”, which will reduce the list enormously.
