The digital euro project is coming to life as the months go byin September 2022 the first working meeting on the implementation of the digital euro was held, and in December 2022 the second meeting was held, in which It was agreed to start this 2023 with the call open to all interested parties to collaborate in making the regulations for the digital euro.
On January 3, the open call for all experts who want to participate in the project was published, with certain requirements, the main one being that, to be able to participate, it must be proposed by an association with a legitimate and direct interest in the ecosystem that is being designed and must prove the qualities of an expert in the subject matter that is applied for.
In this sense, it is intended to create an amalgamation between public sector actors and private sector actorswith the intention that the regulation development group be composed of market representatives with relevant experience and Eurosystem staff.
These market representatives must be nominated by a European association that is a stakeholder in the project, namely to be part of the European retail payment market as payment service providers, as well as the banking community, payment institutions or electronic money institutions on the one hand.
On the other hand, there are the retail experts with a physical presence, with an online presence, companies, corporations and medium-sized companies that represent the consumer sector.
It has been proposed that, by February of this year, this group of experts will already be formed and begin the work entrusted. But for these experts to be eligible, in addition to belonging to one of the aforementioned associations, they must prove a nomination letter from the sponsoring association, in addition to attaching the summary of the resume with the answer to some questions prepared to filter the selected ones.
In this sense, the questions that have been asked are:
- “What interest does your nominating stakeholder association have in the success of a digital euro in general, and the Rulebook in particular?”
- “What professional experience qualifies you to participate in the drafting of the digital scheme of the Euro Rulebook?”
- “What specific knowledge (eg knowledge of technical or payment standards) will you (and the stakeholder association you represent) be able to contribute to the writing of the rulebook?“
- “How do you plan to coordinate with the stakeholder association you represent?”
- “What motivates you and the stakeholder association you represent to participate in a group dedicated to creating a scheme rulebook for a digital euro?”
Those interested will have to send the answers to these questions with the requirements that have been mentioned. before January 20 of this year to start work in February.
The digital euro is conceived as a stable, scalable, secure and widely accepted solution for the European ecosystem in international payment processing, with which the European Central Bank is taking another step forward on an ambitious cryptographic project.
